The genre of Chick Lit represents contemporary women and how they deal with everyday challenges such as their struggle with beauty. Though some may view these novels as quite liberating, there are women who believe the genre is causing the work of the feminist movement to take a step back. Through the exploration of Chick Lit novels, resources on the beauty myth, and feminism, this thesis takes the position that Chick Lit does not conceal serious issues such as beauty by using humor and providing happy ending to its readers, but that it uses these tools to give women an effective way of dealing with serious issues they constantly battle.
